Question: What proof is there that spirit begettal has ceased?
Answer: There are at least 80 proofs that the Harvest reaping, and therefore the High Calling, including spirit begettal, ended by October, 1914, and that the gleaning ended in April, 1916.
But let us first consider the following proposition: There must have been an interval of a number of years between the time that the last member of the Christ was begotten of the spirit and the time when he was born of the spirit. Why? Because it took years to develop sufficient knowledge, grace and faithfulness in service to have made one fit for the Divine nature and joint heirship with Christ. Therefore, the last one to be spirit begotten would have to have been in the flesh a number of years before he made his calling and election sure. During that time, none could have become spirit begotten, because the last one of that class had already been spirit begotten. Accordingly, we see that the opportunity of being begotten of the spirit must have ceased years before some of the members of the Christ left the earth. Therefore, none have been spirit begotten for over a hundred years.
Let us give two of the 80 proofs: (1) The Bible teaches (Revelation 7: 1-3) that before World War I would involve each nation, all of the elect in each respective nation would be sealed in the forehead*. But the war referred to in Revelation 7: 1-3 ended nearly one hundred years ago. Hence more than one hundred years ago all the elect had for some time been sealed in their foreheads. Hence considerably more than one hundred years ago spirit begetting ceased; for it preceded by some time the completion of the forehead sealing.
(2) The Bible teaches that the tribulation of the time of trouble, which began with World War I, July 29, 1914, would very shortly overtake the reaper and end his work, which means the end of spirit begetting (Amos 9: 13).
* The seal of the spirit in the forehead (Revelation 7: 2-8) is an intellectual appreciation of the Lord’s Word as due. Every member of the Little Flock who became spirit begotten during the Harvest of the Gospel Age (1874-1914) became sealed in the forehead, that is, they received enough Truth of the Lord’s Word that enabled them to heed the call to come out of Babylon (Revelation 18: 4). There is also the seal of the spirit in the heart (Ephesians 1: 13; 4: 30) (2 Corinthians 1: 22). This is the disposition that is in sympathetic oneness with the Father in His character, plan and works. This seal causes its possessor to delight in all the Lord’s works and ways and to prefer them to all else as his chief delight. The seal of the spirit in the heart is attained after reaching the mark of perfect love.
